Latrobe Creative Precinct – Aluminum Pan System Case Study

Client: Golding Concrete Company/Becon Constructions

About the project: The Latrobe Creative Precinct will see a state-of-the-art performing arts centre built which is due to be completed in 2021.

The community has grown to a point where the existing Little Theatre facilities are limiting the capability to support major productions and as a consequence cannot compete with other major regional theatres in Victoria. The new theatre 750 seat will increase variety of programs in touring shows – meaning there will be more of them and better choice.
The new precinct will include the following:

  • A 750-seat theatre within a new performing arts centre;
  • Multipurpose/Meeting rooms;
  • An indoor/outdoor café; and
  • Two open air event spaces, one of which is an amphitheater

Overview of Job: The Latrobe Creative Precinct required formwork to support a single ground floor suspended PT structure of approximately 3000m2.
Cassaform were engaged to design and supply a formwork system that would be capable and suitable to form the suspended level given the imposed loading and site requirements. The design brief favoured the hire of a modular type system that could be reused economically through various pours. Given the shorter duration project, this option would alleviate the need for this client to purchase substantial amounts of timber.
Cassaform provided a detailed bespoke design of the formwork system and proposed equipment staging given both the initial construction program and proposed sequencing the client envisaged. This was provided to the client and reviewed in a collaborative manner well before equipment was to arrive.
Cassaform further assisted the contractor when opportunities to improve construction speed were presented. This could only be realised by supplying an additional 350m2 of panel formwork and 200m2 of frames at short notice as opposed to recycling equipment from earlier pours which was initially planned.
Cassaform was also able to provide all technical engineering support and inspections of completed work to help our client safely and economically deliver their scope of works.
